Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012 was spent going through a box of tissues (ANOTHER ear infection for the little man and lovely colds for the rest of us), getting a daddy to ourselves for a couple days, a family party, lots of snow, and being spoiled with gifts from generous loved ones (thank you!!).

What has Rett been up to?

Rett took his first plane ride in June, he flew with Maya and me to California.  Here he is with his cousin Owen.  Ear infection #2 happened while we were there.
He enjoyed Lagoon (with Aunt Tor Tor below), Hogle Zoo, and Cherry Hill the week of  Maya's birthday in July.  Ear infection #3 at the end of the month.
In August daddy gave Rett his first haircut with the clippers.  Ear infection #4 occurred.
He started to cause a lot of trouble in September.  He began to climb on and in everything in sight.  Ear infection #5.
Rett had his first birthday on October 21st.
We spent Thanksgiving in St. George with my family.  Lots of fun playing and swimming.  Ear infection #6 before Thanksgiving.  Ear infection #7 right after Thanksgiving.
He has been enjoying the Chrsitmas lights with his sister lately.  He wanted to walk around the park, in Layton, all by himself.  Saw an ENT last week and scheduled tubes for the beginning of January.

What has Maya been up to?

At the end of June we visited family in California for a week.
She turned 3 years old in July.
She got her first haircut in August, on the deck by me.
Maya started to go to Joy School with three other neighbor girls in September.  They are all the best of buddies. Here she is on her first day.
She told me that she loves it when it snows.  When the first snow came (in October) she was excited to be out building a snowman, a snow slide and making snow angels with friends.
She was Rapunzel (or "Tangled" as she calls her) for Halloween, Rett was Flynn Rider.  We had fun trick or treating at daddy's work and around the neighborhood.
We went to St. George in November for Thanksgiving.  Maya loved swimming and spending so much time with her California cousins.
Her favorite thing to do right now is going to the park to see the Christmas lights.  She asks every night.  I agree with her, it is pretty cool!
Maya just had her first dance recital last weekend. She is in a dance class with her three friends from Joy School.  She is in her element.

Baby Animals

My sister-in-law and I gave the dads a day off and took the kids to Baby Animals Days a few Saturdays ago.  There were train rides, a climbing wall, pony rides, bounce houses, crafts, and lots of animals to pet and hold.  We had a lot of fun and Maya had a hard time leaving, although I was bummed (but not surprised) that she wouldn't ride the horses.
Here are a few photots of the event:
Ran into more cousins and posed for a picture (Maya is obessed with these things)
Going for a ride
She REALLY wanted the white bunny but settled for this one

7 Months

This little guy got to swim in grandpa's pool for the first time today.  He was mesmerized with all the water and kids around him.  At 7 months he is a great napper and unfortunately waking up at least once at night wanting to eat.  He loves being outside and thinks his sister is hilarious, he makes loud noises when he is excited and loves you imitating him.  He is starting to be more cautious of others and holds on a little tighter these days.  Lately he has started to lean towards the ground if he wants to be put down to play with something.  And, he has to try what ever you are eating and lets you know if he hasn't had enough.

Cinco De Mayo Eve

Our neighbors invited us to a Cinco De Mayo Eve pinata smasing for the kids.  Maya came home with TONS of candy.
Posing with her friend's daddy.  Maya was quite scared of his mustache, can't blame her.
The anxious kids.
Let the fun begin.  She wasn't so sure about hitting the pinata and needed a lot of support before she'd do it alone.
My handsome boys watching the fun.

6 Months

Rett is 6 months (last Saturday) and had his check-up yesterday. Don't let his chubby cheeks and thighs fool you (although I took these pictures at a good angle, he doesn't look so chubby), he is only in the 50th percentile for weight (17 lbs. 8 oz.) and 75th percentile for height (27 inches).  He used to sleep through the night but about 2 weeks ago decided he didn't want to any more.  He is willing to tolerate pretty much any kind of baby food, except rice cereal and bananas, but wouldn't say he loves anything yet.  He rolls every where, sits up by himself, and recently learned to blow rasberries and smack his lips.
