When we got around to looking at it we couldn't believe our eyes... Look at how large that thing is (not the best picture, I was afraid to get too close)!! It was massive and there were tons of bees swarming around it. It had to be built in about two days because Tommy had mowed the lawn not too many days before and our neighbors play back there all the time.
We waited until about 9:30 at night to attack it. Standing outside our sliding glass door you can hear the buzzing from inside the hive, it was pretty scary. Tommy first shot it with the sprinklers, hoping to soak it and knock it down. Not much happened, no bees even came out. He decided to go for the bee killer spray which was already half empty. The spray ran out pretty quick not even covering half of the hive. That is when we headed for the grocery store for two more bottles.
Luckily, when we came home the hive was gone. It was pretty dark and we looked at the ground and discovered that it must have fallen off. There was a dark pile of something, possibly bees laying there. After using a whole can of spray on the dark spot on the lawn we went to bed feeling confident. When we woke up we checked things out and it indeed was a pile of bees, the hive must have dissolved or something. We are hoping that we made an example out of this hive and the other bees in the neighborhood will stay clear from our house in the future!
